Tracy’s horse show ribbon quilt, 2010 Fraser Coast Show First place and Champion quilt

My friend Tracy had won an astounding amount of ribbons in the Western Pleasure classes in the Wide Bay Burnett Region in 2008.   Her ribbons needed to be displayed in a way that was also useful, not stuck in a drawer unseen.   As I am a quilt designer as well as a longarm quilter, it was a challenge to create something beautiful from an unusual source.  I sat on this idea for quite some time until another friend found a website of ribbon quilts and of course all is history from then on.  The  feather wreath in the border was free-form quilted in sparkly gold metallic thread, which came out beautifully on the black satin.  Tracys quilt was entered in the 2010 Fraser Coast Show where it was awarded First place in it’s class and overall Champion quilt.  We are both very pleased with the outcome and are considering planning a second quilt with the  ribbons left over.  There are pictures on the wall behind us showing Tracy competing in those winning classes.
